"Pope John Paul, 1920-2005"

We saw it coming. Sad none the less the Pope is gone. On the bright side if you believe in heaven and hell (Its okay if you don't. ) you would agree that he is in better place now. He seemingly has been suffering for a long time. Don't know if any of my readers are catholic which it might have hit harder. Well now we get to see something that most of us were too young to see before or follow the naming of new pope. It will be different I think since he will likely be drastically younger than what we were used to. No reason to link an article, just pick up the paper, look on the net, watch the news channels for the next 72 hours. They will even have pictures unlike this humble blog.

"US to Cease to Exist by 2007; Says Koran"

Want the good news first? Well we don't have to worry about social security anymore. However, if you think this guy is right the bad news is we will all be killed in giant tidal waves on both sides of the country. This guy being a Koran Scholar who thinks are time is soon to be up. Claiming these tsunamis of Asia will look like a day at the beach for us. Claiming the sins of America going back to the murdering of the Indians will come back to haunt them. Of course I don't buy into it. Well read this little article.

"NHL to Have a 30 team playoffs in Late May"

Huge news. I just heard this at 610 WIP so, I have no links. HOwever, behind closed doors the NHL's two sides have come to an agreement and not only are ready for next season. They are planning to have tournment starting at the end of next month with all 30 teams!

It's unclear how they could actually figure out who will play who. Perhaps based on their standings from last season. They are having a press conference on Monday to clear all those questions.

Clearly, this is a bold move. Certainly, they actually see the WHA's tournment as a huge threat. Now that the NHL will have one of their own it's likely most players will past on the WHA tournment to be held in June. A huge blow the start up league.

Great news, I know many casual fans will mock them for throwing a HOCKEY tournment when the summer is about to start. But, hockey is hockey. Just remember that we will have a regular season next year anyway. So all is well.

Im really excited although obviously this Cup winner wont be as reveared as other ones, but still. Time to GET CUUUUUUUUUP Crazy.

APRIL FOOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn, you fell for that didn't ya?

"Save Voorhees Comes out Swinging"

A group of people have started the SAVE VOORHEES campaign. They want to save it from having a big box Wal-Mart by the Echelon Mall. Not long after the mall owners put up their new plans for their signs in the now empty Sam Goody the people for SAVE VOORHEES were out on Somerdale road waving their ANTI-Wal Mart signs. Dan K reported seeing a huge sign on Somerdale Road.

The group is meeting tonight to try to get together conerned citizens. They have posted a pictures of the location of the location of the potential Wal-mart. They seem to be horrified how close it is to their schools and homes! They also voiced their fear of trucks. No mention on the other stores returning to the mall or joining the mall. Just all slamming Wal-Mart.

The drop dead date is slated for April 6th, and it's doubtful PREIT could pull out if they wanted to at this point. It certainly won't be the quiet evening they had hoped for. It could even get ugly since the decision is likely to be reached. I find little support for the Wal-Mart by the people of Voorhees. Perhaps they have the mayor or some politicians in their pocket, but its looking like the Echelon Mall's feeding tube will be pulled next week. Hopefully, no one be driving trucks to the meeting.

Check out the people of Voorhees, speaking out.

"BAD JOKE WEDNESDAY"

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY everybody! Its time for BAD JOKE WEDNESDAY!!!!!!!!

Why did the bald man draw rabbits on his head?
Because from a distance they looked like hares.

"Furious and Angry Powell"

Former Secertary of State Colin Powell is speaking out. Well sort of. If you recall when he resigned I pondered if he would ever come out and slam the Bush and company for the way the war in Iraq was presented to the American people. Of course I am aware that it was Powell himself, who did a lot of the presenting. However, one got the impression not even too long after he did so, that he had serious doubts about what he had actually reported. Also, really didn't think they were out of opitions to the point of war. Well today some quotes could be a note of interest for those of you interested in such things. Although he rejects the idea that him and Bush are no longer on good terms. I cut and pasted an article form AOL since most my readers can't acess their news sites. So, don't go rolling your eyes at the lenght of the article. Besides it sure beats actually doing work at t he office, or writing that paper you know your putting off. FROM AOL BERLIN (March 30) - The United States made errors in presenting its case for war against Iraq, but Saddam Hussein had to be removed, former Secretary of State Colin Powell told a German magazine.
"We were sometimes too loud, too direct, perhaps we made too much noise," Powell told Stern magazine in an interview released on Wednesday. "That certainly shocked the Europeans sometimes."
He said terms like "Old Europe," the expression coined by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to describe countries such as France and Germany that opposed the war, had not helped ease European concerns about Washington's policies.
But he said that despite the problems facing U.S. troops in Iraq, it was better that Saddam Hussein was no longer in power.
"Yes, the insurgency is much bigger than we anticipated. But I'm glad that Saddam is in jail," he said in the German article.
Powell said he had argued for a diplomatic solution against cabinet colleagues such as Vice President Dick Cheney, who did not believe that diplomacy would work.
"The situation with Saddam Hussein had to be resolved, either by taming him or by removing him by military means," he said. "I'm sure that the Vice President's view from the very beginning was: we'll never solve this through diplomatic means."
Powell said he was "furious and angry" that he had been misinformed about Iraq's stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction when he laid out the case for war before the United Nations Security Council in February, 2003.
"It was information from our security services and from some Europeans, including Germans. Some of this information was wrong. I did not know this at the time," he told the magazine.
"Hundreds of millions followed it on television. I will always be the one who presented it. I have to live with that."
But he said he had never considered resigning and rejected suggestions that his relationship with President Bush was a cool one.
"Anyone who says that has no idea. We are friends," he said.

"Wal-Mart Plan Gains Ground"

The plan to build the Wal-Mart could be gaining ground which would green light the overhaul of the mall. In fact without it the mall would die. Apperently, most if not all of the business owners in the mall have jumped on board. Wal-Mart is willing to scale back. An oppinion piece in this weekends paper sheds some light on what the mall back on it's feet could do for the area tax wise. Explained better then I could, so just check it out. Time is ticking though. No date has been set (as far as I know) to have the town vote on the mall or not.

"Good Old Uncle Sam"

The IRS is looking to tax money people get selling on E-bay as part of their annual income. Not people (at least not yet) just selling junk they found in the attic, but people who buy stuff at garage sales or flea markets then turn around and sell them. How they would determine that is anyones guess since people could likely just have other people bid for them or what not. It's funny everyone wants to make money. Uncle Sam always has to step in when people find different (legal) ways of doing so. Read here.

"Easter"

Easter has a funny way of sneaking up on you. We hear Christmas coming from a mile away, months in advance. Easter comes without the obligatory movies and specials. No count downs of shopping days. Even the people who don't celebrate the holiday don't gripe they just ignore it.

You would think that it would come across a bigger deal considering the religious signifgance of the hoilday. On the other had perhaps it's a blessing that it was never really hyper-commericalized and remains a more private holiday for those of faith.

Well, regardless happy Easter to all of my readers.

"Tucker's Dumb Move"

So, the other day I was out mailing something. Next door to the post office is a little newsshop that I frequent on occasion. I had the sudden "lucky feeling" to play the lottery. I wanted to play 265 for the daily drawling for the NJ lottery. 265 was my original number associate number when I worked at Sears.

The number 265 seems to come up for me quite often. So, why not the lottery? I usually stick to the the safer (oddly more expensive) scratch and wins. However, I wanted to do this it was only 50 cents.

So I picked up a Daily News and my ticket. I peered down at my ticket, and the women (who not suprisinly was Indian and had spoke broken English) had plugged me in for 665 instead of the number I requested. I noticed and brought it to the atttention of the guy behind the counter while she was busy doing something else. I stopped myself once because, I realized how idotic it was since the odds wouldn't change. However, the guy was overly nice and went out of his way to print me a ticket with the Sears number on it.

I heistated for a minute and a wiser would have just kept both tickets. I didn't. Just swapped the tickets like an idoit. I for some reason figured it would just be easier for both parties that way. I left. Even in the back of my mind I figured it could have been an omen, but I said "Thats Silly!"

Today, checked the paper. Well I guess its not big shock that 656 came up. And, Yes I boxed meaning the numbers could come up in any order and I would win a little less. I would have had a nice winning of a little over 100 bucks to spend on dinner and a movie tonight with my lovely girlfriend.

Instead I am just left bruises from where I kept kicking myself again and again today.

Echelon Could Be Totally Empty by 2007........

"ECHELON WAL-MART OR BUST"

PREIT is at a cross roads with the Echelon Mall, and Wal-Mart is their final option. Today's Courier-Post (can't find the article just pick up a paper its in the South Jersey section for more info!) reports that if the Wal-Mart falls through the mall will offically flat line sometime in 2007 at the latest.

As reported earlier on Tucker's World people of Voorhees known as Smart Action for Voorhees and Echelon were mighty upset about this large Wal-Mart coming to town and bringing in all these trucks. They also thought the store was too big and would look ugly. Of course it wouldn't be a breath taking as the IHOP that has been empty for several years, the empty salon, car place with graffiti all over the walls or an aging wharehouse retail store.

So, the people at PREIT have decied to nix the 24 hours drive through pharmacy, scale back the size, and make it so to Wal-Mart has less trucks coming in. They would have stright night time delveries. So, all hopefully the people wouldn't be haunted by those dreaded trucks.

That paper confirmed what I said (before they said it) that 3 stores are ready to go and jump into the grave of the empty Sears building. However, they will bail if the Wal-Mart deal falls through. One of the stores was described as Old Navy on steriods whatever that means. Another store would "offer goods more upscale than Wal-Mart" which, well could be anything. They won't reveal at this time who it will be yet.

In addition, a two resturants will share a liqour license. So, the mall will be nice it sounds. Not to mention a new opening will be made where J C Penny's stands now. Pennys will be torn down to make room for the Wal-Mart and a good deal of landscaping and redesigning will make the Mall have an EXTEREME MAKE OVER.

Some people still argue that the Wal-Mart will do more harm then good. However, how can they not take into account the dinning places and 3 other new stores? This could easliy create a domino effect. No to mention various stores that have pulled out like Gertrude Hall have an agreement that when the Mall is back and running they will return. With horrific traffic woes hampering Deptford and South Jersey's new obession with having stuff to do off the PATCO. I am confident that there is a real shot to keep this mall alive here.

PREIT delayed their plans a few weeks back. Likely to rework it since they figured it likely didn't have a shot to get through. That should happen by the end of the week. When PERIT bought the mall it was 76 percent filled now its dipped to 58 perecent filled. That likely includes the little stands. So, its clear its the people of Smart Action of Voorhees will be voting on more then if they want a Wal-Mart. The mall's death could be made offical. PREIT hopes the town will have a meeting in early April simliar to the one that he requested to be postponed. If the Smart Action of Voorhees people get their way, they won't have to worry about any more trucks. Anyone at all coming to that part of their town at all for that matter. Just empty run down forgotten buldings all in a row. No trucks! Perhaps they should vote on dropping the Smart off their name or not while they are at it. Thoughts?

"Ah, Spring"

Well the weather is getting warmer now. So, no more snow updates on the blog till next season. Again I can't complain. Had a big storm, some small storms, a wind storm, extereme temps in a short period storm, and some rain to snow stroms. Now its pretty boring weather wise just lots of rain. Nothing to talk about till the first heatwave. Oh yeah theres always hurricane season which will be here before you know it. Anyway, lots of my readers hate snow so to be fair to them in honor of the start of spring. I am putting away the snow talk till next season. In the meantime. Spring lovers can read up about the current season. Nothing ground breaking, but a nice little read. Besides it beats actually WORKING at your work computer. AH SPRING.

"High Speed Chase in South Jersey"

Well by the time most of you people read this it might be old news. Not to mention that fact that more facts will be known. Tonight on Channel 3's Eyewhitness News they were covering a high speed car chase. When they first came on to the story they said the guy was on the Black Horse Pike in Gloucester County.

However, I was like wait a second that looks a little more famliar than the Black Horse Pike to me. Sure, enough it was the White Horse Pike and the dude was bobing and weaving all over the place. He cut through Lindenwald down Laurel Road and ended up near 42.

3 news helicopters and one police helicopter went flying over my house. The dude I think litterally got from like the Lindenwold train station area to the end of college drive in like 5 minutes or something insane like that.

No idea why he was doing this other then the fact that it was a stolen car. Also that it started in PA, went to NJ, back to PA then to NJ again where it ended near 42.

Had some friends coming home from that way not to distant from the time it occured. Wonder if anyone saw anything. Thankfully (and amazingly) he didn't hit any cars.

"Smoke If Ya Gotta 'Em"

Well, perhaps some of you are checking my blog one last time before you head home for the night. Or are checking it between classes or whatever. As most of you know smoking could be banned in public places including casinos. Today the decision was flipping to the Senate. However, they decided to put off the decision on this to they would have more time to discuss the situation. Wonder what the real reason is, I mean I can't imagine that most people haven't already made up their minds. Maybe they are waiting for casino owners to walk in with a wheel barrel full of money or something.

Well anyway in the mean time by all means smoke your brains out from the bridges to the beach in the public buildings. As much as I am on the fence on this one. I seriously doubt I would worry to much about alienating smokers when I come home from the bar or casinos not smelling like an Ash Tray.

Well for more details check out this story from the Press of Atlantic City.

"Super Sunday: The Kent Farm Set"

Pictures of the Kent Farm Set are on the internet. Included with these pictures is the mark that Superman's spaceship made when it hit the ground. More people are starting to wonder if it will be actually more like a sequel to Superman II with a new cast.

I still doubt Warner Brothers would do that. However, it would be interesting.

Click here for the pictures. I am going to blog about the history of the Reeve film series at one point either later tonight or down the road. I know a lot and want it to be pretty infromative, but not overly long. Perhaps it might be in two parts. However, keep checking back!

In the me time check out the pics! Looks to be legit!

"Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que"

So, Liza and I were coming back from Atlantic City recently. We decided to take the Black Horse Pike home, because we were considering stopping for some place different for dinner. So, that is the advantage of taking that way home. There are a lot better opitions then the KFC off the AC truck stop.

We always passed this place called Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que. Its located not far from the Hamilton Mall in what is considered Mays Landing in South JErsey.

Let me tell you this place just rocked. It was by far the best first experience I had in years. Liza claimed they might have been the best ribs she ever had.

Stepping into the resturant I knew it was going to be good. They had all kinds of cool stuff on the wall like hunting and fishing gear. It was designed like a lock cabin fire place included. It reminded me a bit of the place where John Candy ate in The Great Outdoors.

Anyway I just can't wait to go back because there is so much on the menu I want to try. I ended up getting the Georgia Chopped Pork Sandwitch. Which was proked hickory smoked and slathered in Rich & Sassy BBQ sauce. Man was that good!

My 2nd choice (which I plan to try next time) another sandwitch was the Texas Manhandler which was Texas Beef and Zesty Hot link susage sliced thin and piled high, topped with hell fire pickle chips.

Liza got the platted that had Ribs and Chicken and it was damn good.

Now looking at their webpage it appears that two locations are opening up soon in Philly and one in Cherry Hill. But, why wait? I am looking forward to getting a group together of anyone who wants to go its really not that far a drive. Maybe 20-30 mins from Jennas if that is a good reference point.

The have a thing called the All-American BBQ Feast which serves 4 or 5 people. We saw a family get this order and its more than enough food. Here is what it includes.

A full slab of Spare Ribs, A whole Chicken, a half pound of either beef brisket or chopped pork. Coleslaw, Famous Fries, Wilbur Beans (Jay can't have those) Corn on the Cob, and Corn Bread. All for $52.99. Thats pretty damn good if you split that four or five ways.

On top of that there are five different sauces on the table. Including one called Devil's Spit. Being messy and over eating is highly encouraged at this place.

This post will kick off a new feature on my blog telling people good places to eat in South Jersey. Since, well most my friends love food.

Info
Famous Daves
4215 Black Horse Pike
(609)569-9910.

Its roughly 5 miles or so past the intersection of Route 50 and the Black Horse Pike. It will be on the left hand side going TOWARDS Atlantic City, so you might have to U-Turn around. Taking the Atlantic City Express way your best bet might be to take the Hamilton Mall exit, but im not quite sure where that will dump you in reference to the place.

Also Route 73 is a good way to go. Since it ends at the Black Horese Pike (Route 322). Then just stay on there for awhile. Past 50 for a few. Then your there!

Go on your own and let me know what you thought.

Or let me know when you want to go!

"Tears of a Jedi"

George Lucus is comparing the final installment of the Star Wars prequels to Titantic. He claims it will be a real tear jerker. Well I also hope that it includes a very, bloody volient death of
Jar Jar Binks. I can only hope that is the reason it's going to be rated PG-13.

"WHAAAAAAAA?!?!?"

I pretty much am ready to pack up the snow storm updates of Tucker's World this weekend. Given the fact that the only shot we have is some wet snow start of next week and after that its time to enjoy the spring weather for the most part.

However, I don't know who hasn't heard this story yet, but parts of New Mexico have gotten 3 feet of snow! That is more then the "Monster Storm" dumped on us months ago!

Philly was over the average and all together we got close to or more then 4 feet of snow if you combine all the storms.

Check it out here to read more of the freak storm. Two feet feel Vegas. Wonder if anyone went there for "Spring Break". I certainly wouldn't gamble a dime if two feet of snow fell when I was in Vegas. Sounds like some bad luck to me!

"Ain't My Rotting Bear"

A South Jersey family has a rotting bear corpse on their lawn. It's been there for a week. They called people at the Fish and Wildlife however its lifeless body is still on their lawn.

Hmmm...Fish and Wildlife must be state workers or something.

Read this for more from WPVI Philly
