"PREIT Stalls Again"

For the 2nd time in as many months PREIT has pulled their intentions on putting their Wal-Mart/Echelon Mall plan to vote at the last minute. It was supposed to go up tomorrow, but it won't happen.

It's unclear wheather or not PREIT is throwing in the towel at this point. Going back to the drawling board, or just using a delay tactic to get the protesters to lose interest. The last opition it unlikely, since the last time they did the Anti-Wal Mart movement mushroomed with power.

The people are irrate over traffic, and seem content on the mall shutting its doors for good. Just recently, the children's photo store closed up. Also the Firestone tire store is rumored to be closing this week. The store was set to be knocked down for a gas station. However, if this plan falls through it will just add to the ever growing list of empty store in down town Voorhees.

PREIT certianly couldn't think they had a snowball's chance in hell to get their plan approved tonight so perhaps it was a good move. The SAVE VOORHEES movement continues to gloss over any mention of the dinning places or the new stores. They also fail to point out the lose of jobs that will occur when the mall offically closes. They also leave out how an entire empty mall would benefit the town.

Thinks were going to get heated for the meeting. Now it's just time sit in wait. Perhaps Wal-Mart wants to avoid addition bad press and isn't going to press the issue anymore. However, I can't imagine PREIT getting this far and rolling over dead.

For those of you that want the mall to stay open. Well as friend of mine used to always say.

This is very good news. The mall is dead. It's been dead for years. I was disappointed by that, because I have a lot of sentimental attachment to my childhood mall, but I'm over it now. Saving the mall by putting in a WalMart would be like saving a loved one's life by turning them into a Borg. The final death of the mall is infinitely preferable to me than a WalMart coming to Voorhees. I'm glad that so many residents of Voorhees agree with me, even if their arguments sound a little silly.

But if the mall were putting in a Kohl's, Target or another 'upper class' discount store the people of Voorhees wouldn't think twice about this. I doubt very highly that the snobs in Voorhees even know anything about Wal Mart other than that it is 'lower class'. I completely understand why you hate it Drew, I am not arguing that, I just want my beloved mall back. It is still more convenient to me and I live in Hammonton. I could go on another rant about Deptford but I am not.

Oh Keith, I guess the death of the mall in 2007 is pretty symbolic of the US. They will both be non-existant around the same time. Who wants to do a pool on which will be gone first.

Ah, its going to be terrible. The best these people can hope for it that the mall is sold and changed to homes. Which would likely increase taxes.

Perhaps they will just wreck the mall and build the Wal-Mart on the grounds and make it a super Wal-mart way back. Where the mall used to stand.

Maybe it will set empty for many years intill something is decided.PREIT is doing well enough they could let the mall stand empty for years out of spite.

This is what happens when low level marketing people and poor staff think only inside of the box. This mall has it's days numbered.
