"Tucker's Bag of Rants"

1.You would think that people who enter politics are some how wiser than the average Joe. Certainly when it comes to money. You know come up with this superior way of thinking to bring money aside from raising taxes and what not.

Well pennsylvannia is implementing slot machines galore across the keystone states. Slot machines?! Slot Machines?! Really? Thats the best they can come up with? I could have came up with that idea. Now IM not saying that gambling is evil or anything. But that is a pretty simple idea.

2. Anytime something goes wrong President Bush will make a speech and in combination of giving cute patriotic names to stuff (freedom, patriot Etc) he says they will spend money. Spend, spend, spend. No real indication of where this money is going to come from. Considering we have a huge debt right now it makes it even more puzzling. If you can just write checks when there is no money in the bank. By all means I can do that job for the President. Either this money will never be spent, or the national debt is a bunch of Bologna.

3. Is it just me or does honestly no one care about the race for governor in NJ? No one ever talks about it ever.

4. Why does Rowan keep badgering me for Alumni events, and more money? Please just leave me alone. I have no interest in doing either. Stop printing up this garbage and mailing it to me. Just go back to your goal of taking over the entire town of Glassboro.

5. Why on Earth did National Geographic name Philadelphia the next great city?

6. How is Al Lewis who played Grandpa Munster still alive? He outlived the actor who played his son by 10 years at this point. Maybe they can wheel him out for the Wayans brother's film adaptation of the TV series due out next year.

7. Will the fact that I am eating at McDonald's a lot more lately result in massive weight gain or me winning a prize with my monopoly pieces?

The national debt is not bologna, it's very real. It will have to be paid back, every penny, eventually. President Clinton made a start on doing just that, but Bush has more than undone everything Clinton did.

The worst case scenario is that, if foreign powers such as China decide to stop lending us money (which is how President Bush can keep ordering all this new spending), it could cause an unimaginable collapse i the American economy. I don't think that will happen, but it could, and that's frightening enough.

On another topic, do you not think that Philadelphia is a great city?

I know its a real thing, but Bush just seems like he just throws money left and right like its nothing.

Philly is okay, but I don't see how its the next great city.

I guess the live 8 thing really made people think it was a hip place. I haven't read the article yet.

All the cities in the world, its amazing the picked Philly. I guess if thats as good as it gets, cities in general are pretty lame.

Keith, you never go to the city, you know very little about the city, you have predisposed ideas of what the city is. Philly could very well be the next great city, there are many fun and exciting things going on. From what I understand they are going to make a serious run at the next available Olympics (2016, I beleive). They have very good restaurants and nightlife, not tot mention very open and cosmopolitan. I have loved the city and always felt that it got a bum rap. I look forward to where it is going in the next decade or two. It is not like it is some shithole like Detroit or a southern city.

Oh, and bush is a walking disaster, he has done nothing right with this country and hopefully history will show this.

Its pretty great I guess....

It doesn't surprise you at all that out of every where they picked Philly? Again I would like to get my hands on the article if its the next GREAT CITY of the World or not. Seeing as where its National Geographic I would assume so.

You would have thought the corrupt mayor, gallons of oils spilled in the river and rise in crime in the ritten house square area would have knocked it down a notch.

I hope Philly gets the olympics. I heard some people grip about mass transit as an excuse not to have it there. I think however Live 8 proved Philly can handle it though. People thought it was going to be disaster, but they pulled it off.

South Jersey would really benefit from this too. Many of the hotels & businesses would really reap the benefits. I had heard they might even use Rutgers for sporting events.

The thing about Philly is that it is often overlooked. It has a deep, rich history. It is the 4th or 5th biggest city in the nation. It is featured prominently in many famous movie and TV shows. Very good museums. Many wonderful sights (Boathouse Row at night is one of the best views in the country). But since it is surrounded by NYC and D.C. noone ever mentions it. It is the city that everyone forgot.

(2) It's worse than Drew says. Much of our debt is secured with land. Should China (or someone else we owe) call in their loans, we could lose whole chunks of the country.

(3) I care a lot about the governor's race. It's between a rich white Republican toadie and a rich white Democrat who bought his way into office. What a menu. I hate these lesser-of-two-evils elections.

(4) As if they'll stop with Glassboro. Last time I looked, they were planning on gobbling up everything between the current campus and Rt. 55.

(5) It's important to remember that they say the next great city. It's not there yet, but it is on the rise. I've worked there for the last fifteen years and have seen quite a change. It has new sports stadia, new hotels, a growing waterfront, better tourist-oriented signage, a thriving arts scene, and a very hip Olde City area. It boasts one of the premiere zoos in the country, more park land than any other city in the US, several major universities and a tremendous medical community. To the west is Manayunk and to the east are Collingswood and Haddonfield. It's close to Atlantic City, DC and NYC and far more affordable than the latter two. Hopefully it will one day be great.

(6) Holy shit! That bastard is 95 years old!

(7) Weight gain, high cholesterol, colon cancer and high blood pressure are far more likely than winning anything more than hepatitis from the men's room. [TL]

Not nearly enough is filmed in PHilly. Recently a new trend has started that its become a hot place to film again. But like you said the city has a great history and its under used in movie making.PHilly has a pretty cool skyline, and it will be even cooler when the Comcast Tower is done.

Philadelphia Magazine has an article about it this month. The greatest ALL TIME Philly movies. They had a top 40 list, but they even had to strech it by putting Best in Show in there. That movie took place in Philly, but was filmed in LA. Only a like random crew shots of PHilly were used.

Filming in Philly is great, because if need be you have Jersey and PA suburbs near by. NJ has great places to film, the beach, pine barrens, farm, gettho cities. It has it all.

NJ was actually the birth place of movie making for the part, and many of the studios were in north jersey in the start of the film age. Eventually they realized it was sunnier in LA so they moved out there.
