"Port of Problems"

Over the weekend it became public that a United Arab Emirates (UAE) based company control of ports of New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Miami, and New Orleans. Bush says that UAE is big partner on the war on terror.

The big stink that two of the September 11, 2001, hijackers were from the UAE. To make matters worse, according to the Justice Department and the 9/11 Commissionmost of the hijackers received money channeled through various sources based in the UAE.

Was Bush just a sleep at the wheel when this happened? Or will he prevent it from happening?

I doubt either. Since I doubt such a huge move that would effect the country would not be brought to the president's attention. Also, the White House went on the defensive by the middle of Sunday.

I can only hope they come to their senses and prevent this from happening. Maybe I am just being paranoid and my general concern of this company running our ports is offensive to people. However, I think we should really in this day in age of terrorism letting a company based in an area of the world where its confusing enough trying to figure out who wants to blow us up and who doesn't have access to where all our food comes in and access to an easy way to destroy most the major cities on the east coast just might be a bad idea.

For someone who ran his election campaign on keeping America safer Bush at the very least has a lot more explaining to do here. This is a fairly large contradiciton to anything he has stood for if you think about it.

First of all, as we all know...Bush is a moron. He isn't very capable of running the bases on a baseball field, let alone running a country. He is also an Oil Company whore and these countries are more than likely a source of our oil. But then again, I am not a smart as Drew so he should probably comment here.

Now Dubya says that he will veto any measure Congress might take to prevent the deal from going through.

I only hope that this is yet another instance of the administration being given more rope on which to eventually hang themselves. Too bad that that moment won't come until November 2008. Maybe by then the American people will have awakened from their eight year nightmare and realize that there needs to be a sea change in their government.

Yeah, right. What have the alternatives been in the last two Presidential elections? Gore? Kerry? Is that really the best the Democrats can do? Who will they anoint in 2008? Edwards? Worse still: Hillary Clinton?

We'll see. Whoever is in the race, it'll be a big mess. [TL]

I don't have the details on this, but I heard that Bush knew nothing about it. But he won't prevent it from happening. And, just for good measure, it's also illegal.

Seriously, when this White House isn't breaking the law on purpose, it's doing it by mistake. I'll admit, I'm not exactly a fan, but does anyone out there seriously think Hillary would be worse than this? How?

Do you think Bush really didnt know? Or are they trying to protect him from his own people turning on him?

I dont know since he is trying to keep the deal, I guess it doesn't matter since he is in charge of it.

Lets say President Bush didn't know, what an idoitic way to run things. You would have that they would have at least ran it by him it seems pretty major. I wonder if they really didn't even predict this kind of backlash from his supporters.

Whatever, about Hillary who knows what she really stands for,but she is racking made points with moderates right now.

Nice to see you back on board TL.

Thanks, Keith! I often check in, but don't always have comments to make. Not being a hockey fan is part of the reason.

You're exactly right about Hillary Clinton. Who knows what she stands for! She appears to be too much of a politician, too eager to please, too willing to shift her position(s) depending on which way the political wind is blowing. Moderation and compromise are vital in any healthy political process, but going from Dubya to Hillary would be swinging the pendulum to the opposite extreme.

But at least Hillary can form complete sentences and make coherent statements without a script. Still, she has scary eyes. It's like they're stuck open. When she smiles, her eyes stay psychotically open.

On the other side of the aisle, I'd love to see Elizabeth Dole run. And John McCain. However it shakes out, I'd just like to see some moderation on both sides.

I can dream. [TL]

Hell, I would take Godzilla over Bush. I just hope another Bush doesn't decide to run in 2008. What I heard this morning was that W's brother(or maybe cousin..another Bush none the less), not Jeb, is going to benefit from this deal. Well I can't wait for 2008, as long as we don't get another functionally retarded president.
