Now I am writing this with the fear of being run out of the Delaware Valley by angry drunks hurling flaming soft pretzels at my head.
But, I really can't hold back anymore. Eagles fans have grown flat out annoying. I don't know when this happened recently or if was always this bad, but the Eagles fans have become extremely annoying. Down right obnixious.
I am not knocking fans that are die hard, but do we have to represent our area nationally as place where IQs are lower than 40? Okay the season is around the corner now. However why do I to put up with the Fly Eagles Fly song at Flyers playoff games when the Eagles Season is a long time ago. There are months where nothing remotely intresting happens with the team yet idiots (annoyingly) sing the Eagles song. They are talking about the stuff that is way down the line, where anything can happen to change those events.
These people are so annoying calling up 610 WIP in March singing the Fly Eagles Fly Song. They talk about the scehdules after it is released for about 4 weeks.
"Hey Howard, Do you think the Eagles can win week 6?"
Well for God's sake don't these people have famlies? Granted as hard core-Flyers fan my off season comes during the summer when there is more to do. However, I dont understand why Eagles fans have to call up 610 WIP and say they can't wait till the Flyers are done so there is more Eagles talk.
What in God's name is there to talk about in the off season? PLease who gives a damn about week 10? McCnabb could break his ankle in the pre-season for all we know. Now the fans just call up to rip the Phils and talk about if McNabb has chunky soup for lunch or not. .
Again, I am not against team spirit, but most Eagles hard core fans come off as total dumbasses. For years, I never understood why people(EX: Lima Beanz for Redskins) from this area could root for another team in any of the sports. Perhaps they just don't what to be assoicated with these jerks who for the most part have to be insanely intoxicated for ever single game.
I was so annoyed a few months ago from the stupidy of the majority of the hardcore fans I really considered rooting against them and picking a new NFL team. OF course I am only a casual Eagles fans to begin with so it wouldn't be a big loss. But, my boiling point was when many people were hoping the Flyers would be eliminated so the Eagles would be the ones breaking the streak. Of course for me a Flyers victory would mean more to me, but I just want the streak to end and would be happy had the Eagles broke the streak last January. What idiots.I wasn't hoping the Eagles failed. Maybe I should start.
Well the Eagles are favored to go far, and the Flyers lost their last in the final four last season. Speaking of the Flyers, did everyone hear that Simon Gagne got drafted by the WHA? Just a few more weeks untill the official end of the NHL (the two sides stop talking months ago) I kind of thought this day would come, but I certainly didn't think it would come when I was only 24.

Great post! You were a bit harsher than I would have been, but I absolutely agree with you. I love football, and I'm just starting to get amped up in anticipation of the coming season.
The tipping point for me was when the Flyers were in the middle of a playoff series and WIP talked about nothing but the NFL draft for like six hours straight. Okay, granted, the draft was actually happening at the time, and the Flyers were between games. But still, how much time does it take to talk about some Offensive Lineman who no one's ever heard of and probably won't even play after pre-season?
All sports fans that are "hardcore" fans are idiots. A good example is Knick's fans. The Knicks suck. However, if you listen to NY sports talk radio you would think that they are contenders. Also, NY fans that call these radio shows put forth ridiculous trade ideas. That is the worst. "why don't the Knicks trade schmo #1-#10 and future draft considerations for Shaq, Kobe, and Garnett. Idiots. All idiots.

Keith I agree with you 100% (remeber this moment it does not happen very often). These loser really get on my nerves. It is really sad how empty these people's lives are, I wonder how many of them have goten divorced because of Eagles obsession. I understan that there are hardcore fans out there but some of these losers scare me.
As for the Redskins fandom, I really do not have an answer to it. When I was growing up I was not really a fan of any of the local teams, that did not happen until I became a teenager.
As for the WHA draft, I did hear about it. Not only was Gagne drafted but he was the number one pick. Also Joe Thorton was drafted, now he has to decide if he wants to play in the WHA or in Switzerland.

I am a hard core Flyers fan, but at least I don't root against other teams so my team can be the first to break the streak. If they Flyers only played once a week I doubt I would be talking about them all week long either.
Another example of ioditic Eagles fans is when the Link(c) was build. They all bitched about soccer being played there. God forbid!
These are the same idiots that sit next to me at Flyers games and yell at the ref when anyone with a clue about the game can see that it was clearly offsides.
Meanwhile, Phillies fans seem to HATE their team. I understand being frustrated, I watched the Flyers for 4 years when they didnt even make the playoffs. However, I still at least still enjoyed watching them. The Phillies fans seem to HATE their team these days. What is wrong with them? It doesn't sound like the actual enjoy following the team.
There is a lot of stuff to do around here, can't these people just go to the beach or something. Of course I guess it doesn't matter once the meaningless Eagles pre-season starts. Of course these people will want to rip down the Rocky Statue if the Eagles fall short again.
Someone please drive by the Link and let me know if any drunks are out tailgating for the first home pre-season game.
I'll be honest with you. I can't wait for football season to start. But that is more b/c I don't really like baseball. Yeah, I will follow the Phillies and I like to go to games occasionally, but I just can't get into it. I follow the Eagles very closely, even in the off season. But I guess I follow all of football. I find what teams do in the off season just as interesting as the action during the season.
As for Philly fans being over the top, they aren't nearly the worst. When it comes to football, Packer fans are the worst. It doesn't matter what the topic is they will relate it back to football and the all mighty Brett Favre. Also, Jets fans hate their team even more than Philly fans. Basketball, it is Knick fans. Hockey...well, if I could find more than 5 or 6 hockey fans, I might be able to form an oppinion.
But far and away, the worst fans in the world are soccer...ah....I mean football fans. One word. Lunatics.
