"Ken Riddle 1980-2005"

This might be a point of interest to some of my readers who may not have heard at this point, or a few whose emails I dont have. A classmate of mine (and many of my friends and readers) was killed in car accident over a week ago. My friend Jessica was able to find his death notice.

Memoriam: Dr. Kenneth Levar Riddle 1980-2005Dr. Kenneth Levar Riddle, whose soulful tenor voice glorified the Lordthrough the gift of gospel music, has passed from his earthly life, through the Grace of God, into the eternal life promised in HolyScripture.A native of Alexandria, Virginia, Dr. Riddle, affectionately known as"Kenneth" to his family, friends, fans, and his fellow members of TyeTribbett and Greater Anointing, will be missed by all. Many of thehigh spirited moves and choreography of Greater Anointing were theresults of the talented and spirit-filled heart of Kenneth.Kenneth was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on June 27, 1980, to GailRiddle-LaRoda and Kenneth L. Riddle. He received his early educationin the City of Cincinnati, Ohio, and completed High School in theState of New Jersey. Having been at the top of his classes throughoutElementary, Junior High and High School, it was no wonder that hewould excel in college where he matriculated at Hampton University inHampton, Virginia in 2004 with a Doctor of Pharmaceuticals Degree.

This brilliant young man maintained his status on the Dean's Listduring his entire college career.Kenneth had a profound love for the Lord and was saved at a very earlyage at the Greater Bethlehem Temple Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. Uponhis relocation, with his loving mother, to the City of Camden, NewJersey at the age of 10, Kenneth became a member of the El BethelChurch of Christ in Camden. He went on to become a member of RestoringLife International Church in Baltimore, Maryland, under the leadershipof Dr. Kenneth O. Robinson II and was a faithful member until hispassing.Kenneth epitomized the meaning of "Remember thy creator in the days ofthy youth."

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 5, 2005 at theEmpowerment Temple Church, 4217 - 4221 Primrose Avenue, Baltimore, MD21215 with Dr. Kenneth O. Robinson II officiating. The viewing willconvene at 8:00am, followed by the Home Going Celebration at 10:00am

Not to knock Kenny or anything but that was one of the worst obituaries ever. If I dies and that was written about me I would haunt their lives forever. Or posibly come back as a zombie and eat their brains, whichever came first.

Hi. I was emailed a copy of the obituary for Kenny which is how I found out he passed away. I met Kenny the summer going into my freshman year of high school at marching band practice. He just had this aura about him that he was just someone you wanted to be around and have in your life. I became great friends w/Kenny while performing together on stage and on the field. He really encouraged me in my singing and acting. Since he was older than I he was he sort of was like a big brother to me and when he graduated from high school I always felt this void because he truly was the most talented singer and actor I have ever met. I wish I had kept in touch with Kenny after his graduation because I always knew he would do great things in his life. Kenny is the kind of person that you just don't forget and I hope and pray that God is watching over him.

That's a tragically familiar story. A college classmate of mine and my wife's died in a car accident on the AC Expressway the summer after we graduated. Though built like a linebacker, he was a total sweetheart. Sang with a strong bass voice like a young Paul Robeson. As I recall, he was supposed to go to grad school for musical theater after the summer. We all knew he'd have a bright future.

That was eighteen years ago. We still have a hard time believing it's true. Cherish life, folks. Cherish the time you get to spend with those you love, because one day there will be no more. [TL]

Hi,
I am very sorry to hear about what happened to Kenneth. I have been a fan of his and the choir he sang for for about a year, now. I never got the chance to meet him personally. And from the comments posted, he was just as I have imagined. I will be praying for his choir and family. I last saw him at Kings Dominion and he some more choir members rode the free fall. My cousins tried to get me to go take a picture with them. I didnt, now I wish I had. They sang at the concert that day and as usual Ken was always giving his all into each song. He will be greatly missed.
God Bless,

I went to Hampton with Kenneth and he was a bright and shinning star always on campus from freshman year to senior year. we use to have frequent conversations about natural hair care and that was our bond. I know he is shinning above us now in heaven and we need not worry for him. He was on earth for only a few moments but he touched people like me for a lifetime!

Hi,
This is Neshanique again. i just wanted to thank everyone for posting their comments. I never got to meet "DOC" personally, but only as fan in the crowd. Like most of the fans of GA, I could always feel the anointing that flowed from the choir. I have gone to several concerts and a friend of mine came along and gave her heart to God, also. He was a prime example of the scripture that says "if I be lifted up, I'll draw all men".... I have a few friends who spoke about seeing him on tv and they were not saved. He always gave God his best, his all. I just thank God For that young man of God, he has reached more people through his praise than most people reach in a much longer life time. Wow! 70+ souls that is just awesome and you know that does not even include those around the world. His crown must be huge. Again thank you all for what you have posted, it has really blessed me.
God bless,
#i fan, Neshanique

I had no idea that this young man had died. I was watching a re run of the gospel celebration and tye & G.A was performing and they just had so much energy. When my sister told me that the guy with the long dreds had died it made me sad. I just want to say God bless his family and all those that had contact with this brother. God bless

I was just watching BET and saw Tye Tribet performing and they mentioned this young man. I was compelled to "google" him and came upon this blog. It is a testament to this young man's faith and spirit that so many are touched and saddened by his Home Going. Never having met him or seen him perform live, I still am touched and can feel the annointing that God had on his life by the messages people have left and the images that I found on another page. May God continue to bless his family and friends. Remember, tomorrow is not promised. We don't know when God is going to take us back home with Him; we must live every single minute like it's our last and pray that we will leave a legacy like this young man's.

P.S. To "J" who made the comment about the obituary, how dare you? It is insulting and in poor taste that you would post a message on this young man's friend's blog. What was the point??

Hello to all I am sooo happy to see all the great things that you have to say. This is his sister, and from time to time I forget that he is gone. And then I do things like stubble upon this blog, and it reminds me that he may be absent from the body, but he is present in all of our hearts. May God add a blessing to each and everyone of you that grieve for him. Thank You for your kind words.
P.S.
To everyone who is disturbed by the message that "J" left. Pray for him, and remember "People who judge don't matter, and people who matter don't judge."

When I saw this blog, I cried. Kenny was my spiritual big brother and even though we didnt see each other often, he never forgot about me. I feel that to be an honor seeing that out of the many ppl he met and touched throughout his life, he remembered me. Not to get too personal, but I have two very fond memories to share with ya'll. Like I said, we didnt see each other often and I remember at the Gospel Jamboree 2005, he spotted me out of a crowd of about 3,000 folk. I had changed seeing as the last time he had saw me I was 14, now I'm 17. They were in the middle of a song, and he was taking a breather, still singing, but he stood to the side, and pointed at me and gave me the "arms crossed over chest, I love you." Needless to say I was floored, first because he spotted me and second because he took the time to catch my attention while still performing.
Another memory I have of Kenny is running into him after my mother had told his mother that I had wanted him to escort me to prom. This was during the time he was about to graduate as a Doctor of Pharmacy(soooo sooo proud of him) and he was like " I would of taken you." I was like "What?" He said,"You should of called me. I would have taken you to your prom." I tried to laugh it off like, "shut up!" and if you ever have seen him smile, he put that smile on and shook his head like,"I'm not joking. I'm serious." Again I was floored. The fact that he would even think about taking his 16 year old "lil sista" to her JUNIOR prom floored me. Mind you, this was in May,and he was newly engaged, gettin ready for finals, travelin wit GA, and doing all the other things he did.
That was the kind of person Kenny was a God knows I miss him. Its been five months since his passing and I think about him everyday. He has truly been an inspiration to me and finally, I would like to share an essay I wrote about him for a college application. The question was (paraphrased) Tell us someone who has shaped your thinking. Here it is:

I am honored to have known such a person as my friend, Dr. Kenneth LeVar Riddle. Being that I am the oldest of my brother and sister, I was never anyone’s “little sister.” Fortunately for me, Kenny was willing to fill that role of “big brother” in my life. I met him at the age of eight and from that moment we were introduced, he had always treated me with the tenderness and affection of an older brother. For that, I am eternally grateful.
Kenneth has truly shaped my thinking in every aspect imaginable. From his sharp sense of style to his immaculate character, he embodied quality. Characteristics perceived today as rare were personified in Kenneth. In everything he did, he displayed integrity. He was a loyal friend and showed his humility by graciously taking the role as a humble servant, always offering his services when needed or desired. Kenny was a voice of reason for so many people and was full of wisdom beyond his years. He always provided a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on when needed. Kenneth had the ability to transform into a comedian at any given moment and could make me smile with out saying a word. He was an extremely gifted tenor and he shared his gift with the world as a member of a nationally acclaimed group of singers. He had a love for life that was expressed on stages of national recognition.
His education was one of the most important things to him. He not only excelled in school, but he offered his assistance to whoever he could help academically. Because of his patience he could not only solve a calculus equation over the phone, but would take all the time needed to make sure the problem was understood. His love for learning paid off on May 14, 2005 when he graduated as a Doctor of Pharmacy with Honors at the age of twenty-five. This may seem like an average occurrence, but given that he attended rehearsals and traveled around the country at least twice a week, he still maintained excellent grades. At times when I feel overwhelmed and want to give up, I remember how perseverant, steadfast and determined he was to be the best at every endeavor he pursued. His accomplishments are a reminder that being focused and working hard pay off at the end.
On August 29, 2005, I received a call that I will never forget. I was told Kenneth had died due to injuries from a car accident the night before. I was in shock, but there was nothing I could do and there was no way I could question God. I knew he had experienced exactly what he had lived his life to experience, the trading in of his earthly body for a heavenly one. Kenneth was a man of many words, but he always let his actions speak louder. He had a big heart and a smile that would light up my world every time I saw him. Yes, Kenny has inspired me to be the best academically, but he has also inspired me to show character in everything I do. He has taught me to believe in myself, and to most importantly, live a sanctified life so I can see him again. Many call celebrities, political figures, or historical heroes their role models, but for me, my big brother, Dr. Kenneth LeVar Riddle will forever be mine.

Please continue to pray for his family and friends because his death is still a shock to them. Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts about my big bro. Kenny praise him! I'll c u when I see u, bruh.

love,
ingelle

When I met Kenny Riddle I was a junior at Sterling High school and he was an incoming freshman. I remember him being very excited about music. He joined the gospel choir that I co-directed and was also in my instrumental section in the marching band. He always had a big smile on his face. I can not believe that he is gone. I am glad he was able to bless others in his time here on earth.

Today is Thursday, August 31, 2006. I stumbled upon this site by accident...but then again maybe not. Dr. Kenneth LeVar Riddle is my son.
As I read each comment, I continue to stand in awe of Kenneth and to to be deeply moved by his life. I miss him like crazy. He was my son, my friend, my encourager, and my pride in joy. I bless God for allowing him to be a part of my life. Thank you for thinking enough of Dr. K to post information about him. Our family is still in disbelief, but the strength of the Lord has sustained us. Thank you again for your kind words, your prayers, and for remembering the life of a great man of God-Dr. Kenneth LeVar Riddle.
Continue to pray for our families (LaRoda, Riddle, Brooks, Myers, GA Ministry).
Sincerely, His mom-Gail LaRoda

My name is Vilmaris. I was one of the fortunate people who got to know Kenny. He went to Sterling High School with me. He was such an amazing person and i loved to watch his charisma on stage. My favorite memories of him are when he was giving me pointers for my audition in our schools production of Guys and Dolls. After i finished my audition, he walked over to me and gave me a great big hug and told me how great i did. He always had a kind word and a smile for all. His portrayal of "Fagan" in our production of Oliver was magic. I was our music teachers assistant for that production and i remember Kenny looking down at me in the orchestra pit and sending me a wink. I admired him for his spirit and his kindness. Kenny will forever be in my heart and i will carry those memories with me forever.
Much Love

I feel so bad for posting this message on a blog this many years late but I literally just found out about Kenneth's death a day ago.

We met years back when he was still in undergrad. He had come to California for a performance with his collgege singing group. He was an exceptional singer and a phenomenal dancer. He was such a warm and genuine person that we clicked and immediately became friends. We lost contact in 2004 when I was going through some personal things and I was pretty unstable at the time.

I had a dream about Kenneth a few days ago and in the dream we were talking on the phone like we used to do so often back in the day. I remember waking up saying to myself "wow I haven't talked to him in like four plus years. i gotta reach out to ol' boy." If we didn't talk on the phone he would actually take the time to write me.

So that morning when I woke up I started sorting through some old boxies in my room and I came across an old photo album of pics. And in the album were lots of pics of Kenneth.

Since I didn't know how to get in contact with him I decided to search him on Google and see if he had facebook, myspace or some way I could get in contact with him. However I was deeply saddened to find out that he had been killed. I feel real empty. Even though most have mourned four years back I am just going through a small mourning myself.

We often question why God takes people so soon and so tragically. And I thought the same thing myself. But Kenneth was a good brotha. Always positive and uplifting there is no doubt in my mind that God welcomed him home with open arms.

And I may be crazy for posting on an "expired" blog. But I had to write something to get it off my spirit. I am going to upload some pics of him to my facebook acount. People with his spirit are rare today and I will never forget his kindness, generosity and compassion.

Cannot believe it's been 9 years since he's left this world. I was very fortunate at one point of my life to call him a great friend. For 4 yrs I was blessed with his presence in my life. He was always was so encouraging, loving, and supportive. To this day, whenever i'm having a difficult time I think of him. I know he's a guardian angel watching over from above..whenever I hear a certain song on the radio, esp during a difficult moment its like I feel him telling me everything's going to be ok. I love you Kenny! Thank you God for blessing us with him, so sad he left us far too soon!
