"Cap Hurts"

So like all the new NHL rules. There are actually a lot of things about the salary cap not realized till now for many fans.

For instance everytime an NHL team calls up a player from a farm team the money goes against the cap. Usually the player is paid per day on a two way salary towards the cap.

This concept I think makes it tougher for teams to move players in the system. For example Flyers rookie Jeff Carter struggled mightly to start the season. In years past he likely could have been sent to the PHantoms for a wake up call.

However, this year if they called up a player it goes against the cap. So calling up RJ Umberger in his place would have been more costly. In fact he was eventually called up due to several injured players. The day before he played he skated with the Phantoms, because if he even skated with the Flyers at the SKATEZONE, even that would count against the cap.
