"Hot Dog Talk"

So, my dad was at a charity event recently, and at the end they had hotdogs out for refreshments. Anyway he put some ketchup on his dog, and the guy behind him, was like "Are you really going to put Ketchup on your dog?!?!". My dad did, and it got me thinking is ketchup not as a common dressing for a hotdogs as I thought. I am a ketchup and mustard guy myself. But, if I had to pick one of the two it would be ketchup easily. I would think the most common dressing for a dog would be as follows. Ketchup, Mustard, Relish, chopped onions. What does everyone else put on their dog?

yellow mustard, sometimes relish. I never thought ketchup was an unusual condiments for dogs. I know lots of people who use it, but frankly, it does seem kind of bizarre to me. Mustard for dogs, ketchup for burgers, end of story.

Ketchup on hot dogs is a very regional thing, much like the whole "soda" versus "pop" thing. In the northeast, mustard is king, but in the midwest it's all ketchup.

And mustard on soft pretzels is a very localized phenomenon. I grew up in NY and never even heard of that until I came down here. Between that and the Mummers I was convinced that this was the strangest place on Earth.

Then again, I like strange.

As for my hot dog preferences, I'm a vegetarian, so I get veggie hot dogs, wrap them in cheddar cheese and then slap on some brown mustard. Dee-lish. [TL]

You must be running out of things to post about. Who the fuck cares about such stupid things? You know damn well people put ketchup on their hot dogs. Half the fucking planet does.

Mustard and sometimes onions. I do love a good Chili Dog now and then.

Wow. Learn something new everyday. I just did some internet research on the ketchup thing, and it turns out that people who take hot dogs seriously (too seriously, in fact) are in agreement that ketchup on a hot dog is the mark of a true barbarian. Apparently, if you order ketchup on a hot dog at a serious hot dog joint (I'm not aware that sch a thing existed), you're likely to get some very dirty looks, and probably a saliva glaze.

I always put ketchup on dogs. I also put mustard and relish, but ketchup is a minimum. But if the optionis there I will always go with a good chilli-cheese dog. Sauerkraut is also very good.

My mouth is watering just thinking about all of the options. And Drew, you really need to go back to work if you have time to research that. This is what happens when the state shuts down.

Well by the amount of comments on this comment I would say I struck a nerve.

Also, my blog has always been about stupid things. Nothing has changed.

A few years ago I watched a PBS documentary on hot dogs. Yes, a documentary about hot dogs. I don't remember much about it, except for a segment about a hot dog place in north Jersey where they offer deep fried hot dogs. If you see it's on, I recommend watching it. It sounds kinda goofy, but it's really interesting. [TL]
