"Deadline"

Kyle Calder, Alexi Zhitnik, Nolan Baumgartner and Peter Forsberg might not be the only ones leaving Philly. The trade deadline is this Tuesday afternoon. Others expected to be delt include Geoff Sanderson, Robert Esche and maybe Hatcher.

The Flyers are just getting a bunch of unproven youngerster and draft picks for their talent. Calder might have been one of the worst trades in the history of the Flyers, maybe in the NHL. He was awful.

Most the players that the Flyers have gotten in trades will not have any impact really for 2 or 3 years if at all. The thing with the "prospects" trades in hockey is that they pan out maybe 40 perecent of the time. The draft picks are good to have, but the Flyers really need to start drafting better.

All, eyes will be on the firesale in Philly tomorrow. I can only hope they plan on getting some quality free agents next summer. God, knows they will have plenty of cap room.

Worst trade of all time? Really? Are you using just a little too much hyperbole here?

Handzus: 44pts 29 years old
Calder 79 points 27 years old

Handzus is a good faceoff guy, played a position that the Flyers had to many players for and is basically a good faceoff guy and a grinder (something the Flyers are full of). Calder was coming off a career year played on a shitty team with no help and played a position the Flyers had a need for. Clader eventually turned out to have a bad year but he was better of late and might still turn out to be a player, it is not like any Flyer really blew the roof off of the joint. Handzus also only played 8 games for Chicago. The Flyer took a gamble on potential it did not pan out but I do not fault them for trying.

Which leads to the bigger issue; Keith you fall in love with players and become blind to their faults. You love Roenick so when he was let go so Forsberg could play here you hated Forsberg. Never mind the fact that JR is DONE, and Forsberg is still one of the best players in the league. You love Zeussssss! so you could not see that he is a guy that will score 30-50 points and is a grinder they are a dime a dozen in the league no big loss to the Flyers. They picked up someone that could have (and still might) turn into a genuine scoreer in the league.

So really, this was not even in the top 500 of worst trades ever. You want bad trades look at Roy to Colorado Oates to the Flyers, Gretzky to the Kings now those are bad trades.

First off I did not hate Forsberg, he was a great talent and fun to watch when he played.

Jay, you have admitted that you have not watched an entire game since the home opener. Well, you missed a lot than. Forsberg was an awful captain.

He would sit on the bench with his head down and look at his skates. Certain players came right out and said there was zero leadership on the ice. (the fridge and carter for two) Forsberg never bothered to address that issue.

Also, I am sorry but him refusing to take part in a shootout during a flyers/rangers game was a joke. He eventually had to go out when the ran low on players. But what good is Forsberg if he doesnt do what you pay him to do? What kind of leadership is that? if your ankle is bothering you or you just arent feeling it, let someone else win the big game.

He pulled the same crap in Nashville already, and finally went out and wipped out before making it to the net.

The Handzus trade was idoitic, okay not one of the worst NHL trades ever. But, they lost primeau and had no big centers. They got Calder, who is a dime a dozen player. We already had Kappy, Sanderson, and richards all the same player to a certain degree.

Aside from the draft picks that Oates wrost trade ever is really starting to lose its punch its pretty clear to me at this point that Maxime Ouellet, was a fraud and the Flyers knew it.

Do you know when we traded him? 2002! He is now on his 2nd team since us, and has failed in 5 years to make the NHL even as a backup. Now hitting his mid-20s one has to wonder if he will ever even make it into the NHL.

He was LIT up a few times out,and the buzz on him is totally gone. I think the Caps might have gotten a bag of pucks for him.

I would have a hard time putting Forsberg in my top 20 players in the league right now. I am not saying what he does, but what he can do now.

In fact, I might blog about the top 20 players in the league, maybe Forberg would make it, but I doubt it.
