"Stratford Gets Wet"

My hometown of STratford finally came to their senses and voted to be able to serve booze. I really never understood why always shot this down and remained a dry town for so long. I mean right down the White Horse Pike you have tons of bars. So, you could littreally stand next to a bar in STratford.

Basically, they are just squandering a chance to lower taxes. I *THINK* they are going to have 3 liquor licences and they wont go to existing businesses. That chains, or a nice quiant resturant (Id prefer) can exist with a bar. There is plenty of room in a mostly empty shopping center! A great location right off the train!

Finally the good people have gotten off their horse and buggy, sent out the tellagraphs, and the people have spoken. Time to have a good 'ol time!

I highly doubt the town will turn into a bunch of drunks or anything. Just a great chance to woo new businesses

Unbelievable. No reason to vote? How about the ballot question regarding the preservation of open spaces and public lands throughout the state? That may well affect your complex's woods! What--you didn't read your sample ballot? You didn't go online and get informed? You just sat back and made lame excuses about not owning land, eh? Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

I'm sorry, but voter apathy is one thing that sticks in my craw like nothing else. There is absolutely no excuse for it. It costs nothing, it takes so very little time, and it can have a profound impact on your life, whether you realize it or not.

Last year I was roundly disparaged for exercising my right to free speech by simply speaking my mind about Steve Irwin. This year you freely abdicated your right to vote, despite the fact that it may well have a very direct effect on you. The high ground is mine, my friend. [TL]

I should explain that the original article is different than what you see now. I basically said that I was too apathic to vote.

I never registered myself in my new town since I moved over two years ago, and didnt care about the goings on in my town.

I did care about my hometown (clearly by the post). TL, must have read the previous article which I took down for reasons I would rather not get into on here.

Anyway, I did go on to say I would have voted for Mayor if I felt someone in Pine Hill, could have done something to prevent all the woods near my apartment being sold to developers(I cant stand that).

Apperently, I could have voted for something statewide to protect wild life. OH well. I guess I have myself to blame when the bull doze more woods for a Riteaid in my state.

In the imortal words of Tony Soprano.

"Wadda gonna do?"

Wow, TL actually made me feel guilty about not voting. Thats two years in a row I didn't vote for anything.
Maybe he will reach me and I will vote next year!

Yeah, it was the previous post on which I commented. Glad to see that it didn't completely vanish.

Gee whiz. I was pretty harsh, wasn't I? Sorry if I came on too strong. I stand by the sentiment, but I could have chosen a more measured tone.

I hope that you do vote next year and every year thereafter. And forget guilt; if you need some other motivation, keep in mind that I lean very far to the left. If nothing else, you may want to consider casting your votes to counter mine.

Better still: next October, take your sample ballot to work and spend just one lunch hour researching the candidates and ballot questions. Who knows; you may end up becoming that most rare, beautiful and feared creature: an informed voter. [TL]

It seemed a bit harsh, but I didnt take it personally. I have been called a lot worse and had quite a few more HATEFUL comments come my way.

The whole ride hom yesterday I felt pretty awful about it. There was really no reason.

Years ago, I was like you getting mad at my friends for not voting. I dont know at what point I became "That Guy"

I guess I am more cynical than I was in college about such stuff.

Who cares.

Voting is a waste of time. Anyone who thinks their vote "matters" is a fool.

So you're giving advice to fools. Good strategy! [TL]

I didn't give advice to anyone, I simply made a statement.

I rest my case. [TL]
