"PREIT Plug on Wal-Mart Plan

ECHELON MALL COULD BE DEAD OFFICALLY BY THURSDAY

The people of the Voorhees who feared a Wal-Mart bringing in to much traffic to their area can breath a sigh of relief. Yes, instead of a Wal-Mart they will be getting an addition street in that section of town in addition to 100s o new residents who will live there in new condos. So, yeah all the people living there and street with a purpose for people to drive on to pull up to stores is really going to..um not be any traffic problem...er..yeah.

PREIT has said they are waving the white flag and giving up on the Wal-Mart. They were to purpose for the millionth time to the people of Voorhees their plan to have a Wal-Mart, Resturants, a new stores. The people had already planned to yell an scream about how much Wal-Mart sucks.

Instead they plan to according to the mayor "present the town with more of town center". Kind of like a mainstreet (who cares if that entire concept flopped)that you can drive up to the stores and resturants and park. They claim the mall will be cut back to the original 1970 blue print. Back in TL's mall rat days when there was no Pennys or Sears.

The new bedroom apartments of the condos will go for a mere 1,200. They even were nice enough to promise no section 8, or low income homes.

Thursday the concept will be presented, and likely in the papers the next day, so I will try to provide a link to it. I don't really understand how other stores and condos are going to help the remains of the mall.

I was right about the condos, and if im 100 percent right. PERIT will offically sign the Mall's death warrent in 48hrs. The mall will be town down down completly and there will be no mall.

So, as long as the new residents are really quiet, dont drive trucks, the construction is done with silent hammers, people don't actually want to go to the "town center", than the people of Voorhees will get their quiet traffic free neighborhood they were fighting for.

It's been dead for ages... it's time to let it go.

Totally agree. The mall I once knew and loved died years ago.

For the record, when I got here in 1976 JC Penney was already built. I always assumed it was original! Sears, of course, was much newer.

Clearly JCP was expanding back then, because the Cherry Hill Mall got that whole two-story wing with a JCP at the end back in the late seventies. [TL]

This is Great news for me. The low level marketing staff and workers of that mall created their own demise. Preit did not think outside the box and now they're mall is going down. What goes around, comes around, the same with Strawbridges. Oh well. God does not like ugly. I knew this day was on it's way. New Blood is coming to South Jersey and it is not preit. Farewell to Echelon Mall and it's entire staff. Wouldn't want to be ya....hahahaha

Mofatt Welsh from Preit is a bitch and a thief. What a piece of shit.

The mall is still going to be there, but not in the shape it is now. I don't know if this guy understands that. Oh, and don't forget, the couple hundred snobs that will be moving into the new apartments/townhouses or whatever they may be. Remember...it is Voorhees and a lot of the people who live there think they are better than the rest of the world.

It appears that it will be there still. I really thought that when they released the actual plans they would say they are knocking it down.

Having a line of shops, and than a mall next to it still doesnt make much sense to me, but whatever.

I dont know who Mofatt is, but anyway the mall is just getting cut in half. Its not going anywhere at least not this week.

The owners are confused and not sure what to do. Here is a credible inside. It is going to be knocked down entirely. Strawbridges is closing and Boscov is letting go of many of their people. They are planning to build luxury condos. The mall is history. Watch! Cherry Hill Mall may be a thing of the past next. A new mall is coming to South Jersey and it will blow away all of the other malls.

If you are a credible insider...prove how you know what is going on.

Strawbridges is not closing. They are becoming Macys. Thats according to the press releases they send out from the home office that was picked up in all the major local papers.

I still have my doubts that what we see here is the FINAL word. But, I have no clue what you are talking about in regards to another mall blowing away CHerry Hill etc.

Keep in mind PREIT owns Deptford, Cherry Hill, Echelon, and CUmberland.

My mother was just in Strawbridges a few days ago and the employees were talking about its transformation to a Macy's. Maybe this 'insider' is one of those NO WALMART people and just wants to be an insider.

Preit is owned by the KRAVCO company, not Preit.

That too is credible.

There's no way that the Cherry Hill Mall is going anywhere. The place is always packed, the vacancy rate is incredibly low, and new stores are still moving in. Echelon has been withering for years, but Cherry Hill is thriving.

Side note: Wal-Mart may be carpet-bombing NJ at the moment, but apparently so is Old Navy. They just opened a store in the CH Mall, giving us three within five minutes of each other: the mall, CH pavillion and Eastgate Plaza. Just an observation. [TL]

I'm with you TL the Cherry Hill Mall isn't going anywhere.

Cherry Hill Mall needs a facelift. Strip malls are becoming the thing of today. Watch the what goes into the old racetrack.

Jenna said...

Since when are strip malls becoming the 'thing of today'. Just because Marlton has them means absolutely nothing. The Cherry Hill Mall is always doing improvements, I think you are insane.

Don't under estimate the power of government

Jenna said...

First of all I can't stand politicians. Second of all, are you trying to imply that the government is going to step in and take the Cherry Hill Mall down. I guess if they can claim eminant domain over it so they can get more tax revenue out of it they would. Which is completely ass...but hey this is NJ and politicians blow their load all too quickly over a little more tax revenue in this state. Oh...I hope your not a politician!
